National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.
This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension.
Duties
Serves as Academic Specialist (Directorate of Academics) at the CISA Joint Special Operations Masters of Arts (JSOMA) program in Fort Liberty, North Carolina and technical advisor to the Director of Academic Staff and Assessment. The Academic Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and executing academic support functions.
Manages and creates reports on faculty research and development activities for university wide visibility. Manages all book and copyright orders, academic calendar, college-wide calendar, and the coordination of enrollment and registration for incoming students. Oversees process and task management of unpaid Research Assistants ensuring deadlines are met as well as identifying and balancing workload and tasks ensuring high productivity rates for the research team. Responsible for the coordination of academic technology training for students, faculty and staff. Contributes to the maintenance of the college operations as the coordinator of in-processing and orientation in conjunction with the University International Student Management Office (ISMO) and Registrar. Manages briefings and in processing requirements, coordinates college orientation to all new faculty and students. Responsible for the development and implementation of student and faculty assistance workshops. Participates in the development of syllabi and rubric development for curriculum administration in close coordination with course directors and faculty. Develops and manages the program's implementation of the University's Learning Management and Assessment Systems as well as applications that integrate with both based on faculty and college institution requirements. Directs the Individual Student Research Papers (ISRP) process and Thesis Symposium event, engages guests; internal and external to the University, preparing panel sessions based on regional area of study or topic and recruiting panel moderators and jurors. Delivers direct academic and instructional support to students for thesis development and completion. Organizes student presentations to include location, technical support requirements, file consolidation, and all event agenda management. In preparation for the Thesis Symposium event, the incumbent presents workshops for students and manages the thesis document formatting standards, advising processes, and thesis processes.
The Academic Specialist is responsible for the creation and annual evaluation of the Course Management, Inventory Maintenance, and Book Ordering and Distribution Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for CISA JSOMA faculty and staff. Develops and oversees the implementation of academic policies and processes to improve productivity, effectiveness, and compliance with Federal and University requirements. Oversees the Electronic Assignment Submission policy and CISA Academic Integrity policies. Organizes Academic Policy Council meetings and coordinates policies and memoranda for discussion processing all concerns in a proactive manner. Ensures and oversees college's compliance to the University ISRP/Thesis Release policies. Creator, editor and fact checker for reports, presentations, policy documents, publications, and memoranda for college wide dissemination. Performs additional duties as assigned.
The Academic Specialist is responsible for Special Warfare Center and School/Education Group (SWCS/SWEG) liaison functions to include: Program promotion and recruiting and attendance at SWEG Educational Fairs, development of the annual MILPER message regarding application requirements and process in coordination with the ARSOF Graduate Management Office. The Academic Specialist also supervises in-processing and outprocessing for all JSOMA students, to include, but not limited to coordination with Ft. Jackson USA Officer Student Detachment. Additionally serves as liaison between NDU International Student Management Office and Fort Liberty International Management Student Office for post in-processing and University in-processing. In performing the coordination functions, the Academic Specialist is routinely attending meetings and coordination events in SWCS classified spaces.

- Must be able and willing to travel both domestically and internationally. Travel is seldom required. Less than 20 % of the time.
- The incumbent must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must:
Possesses a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent) in higher education, education administration, business administration, management or other appropriate discipline.
Knowledge of college and administrative functions, practices, techniques relevant to academic policy and administration.
Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, and students providing academic support.
Experience with software, systems, and programming in support of academic functions such as Blackboard Leaning Management System, TK2O Assessment Application, SharePoint or similar. Experience using Microsoft Office 365 Suite Programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with faculty, students, and staff in academic setting.

Education
Education Requirement: Possesses a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent).
Official Transcripts: Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; however, if the position has a positive degree requirement, qualifying based on education alone or in combination with experience, transcripts must be verified PRIOR to appointment, if selected for the role.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program.
