About the Position: Serves as a Security Assistant for the National Museum of the United States (NMUSA). Performs a full range of duties to include applying security processes and procedures for a facility with emphasis on and not limited to, access control, camera monitoring, security systems, and key control and badging.
Duties
Provides safeguards for the protection of US Government physical and historical property to prevent theft and vandalism.
Provides routine information, referring visitors to appropriate staff members for specific action.
Implements procedures designed to safeguard Army property, historical artifacts and Army personnel.
Greet visitors, conduct bag checks, operates stationary or hand help magnetometers, and x-rays, to detect prohibited items and determines their eligibility to access the facility.
Controls access to the facilities and manages access badges.
Requirements
- Position requires a Secret Clearance.
- Position is subject to shift changes based on mission requirements, e.g. Day - Swing – Mids, nights, weekends, and holidays to include overtime.
- This position has been designated as a Mission Essential (ME) position. The incumbent must continue to perform ME duties until relieved by proper authority. Incumbent may be required to participate in readiness exercises.
- Incumbent must be able to lift at least 50 pounds or more.
- TDY is 5%.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work may involve some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items up to 50 lbs or more.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring security systems such as closed circuit cameras and intrusion alarms; and managing access to facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
