About the Position: Serves as a Security Assistant, responsible for applying security processes and procedures for a facility with emphasis on and not limited to, access control, camera monitoring, security systems, and key control and badging.

Duties

Provides safeguards for the protection of US Government physical and historical property to prevent theft and vandalism. Reports suspicious activity to appropriate internal and external points of contact. Greets visitors, conducts bag checks, operates stationary or hand help magnetometers, and x-rays, to detect prohibited items and determines their eligibility to access the facility. Dispatch emergency services on alarms that necessitate action. Writes and reads security and access control policies and procedures, and follow written and oral instructions related to access controls functions. Provide security updates to supervisor and leadership. Virtually over watch alarm system testing to ensure systems are working properly.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Position may require overtime to meet mission requirements.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential and in the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (Natural or man-made disasters) the incumbent is required to report to work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Incumbent is subject to shift work to provide evening coverage, weekends, holidays, and special situations.
  • Position may require overtime to meet mission requirements.

Interpreting physical security regulations; 2.) monitoring alarm/security systems for government and/or commercial facilities; 3.) Using a variety of automated data bases to generate and distribute critical security information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Access Control OperationsOral CommunicationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). To be referred, applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing of the announcement.
