You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN (INSTRUCTOR) in the RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE, RADIOLOGICAL SUPPORT DIVISION (Code 105.4) of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. SALARY RANGES: GS-11: $75,640 - $98,330 GS-12: $90,662 - $117,856

Duties

You will research and review courses involving radiological controls (RADCON) in production shops and codes. You will review changes to Naval RADCON and local requirements to ensure changes are included in affected courses. You will review graded written examinations and surveil practical examinations administered by other shops and codes for accuracy in grading and adherence to established policies and procedures. You will train and certify shop instructors on local and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) requirements. You will conduct work site surveillances to monitor the effectiveness of training and adherence to standards. You will serve as radiological control technical advisor and point of contact for ships/codes in order to answer any questions that may arise and provide knowledge of a technical nature on applied radiological controls. You will train junior personnel in the organization, review their work for accuracy and completeness. You will conduct work site surveillance to monitor effectiveness of training and adherence to standards. You will train and certify shop instructors on local and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) requirements.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For the GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector experience planning, developing, evaluating, and facilitating theoretical and applied radiological control (RADCON) techniques training; and conducting worksite surveillances to monitor the effectiveness of training and adherence to standards. For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector experience coordinating and facilitating theoretical and applied radiological control (RADCON) techniques training; and conducting worksite surveillances to monitor the effectiveness of training and adherence to standards.
