You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT DEPT., INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION PLANNING DIV. of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will confer with planning and estimating staff concerning product manufacture and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. You will manufacture and modify tolling, fixtures, as required by using 3, 4, and 5 axis CNC machines. You will advise design engineers and process planners of the capabilities and limitations of CNC equipment. You will identify and advise advantages of standardization of radi, holes, and fillets to design engineers. You will provide specific data regarding project cost, time material, and tooling during the planning process. You will analytical translation of engineering design layouts and drawings to program control media for the operation of CNC machines. You will design special fixturing, tooling, and furnishes formal data packages with drawings for the manufacturing.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1.) Technical expert specializing in major, specialized, highly complex, and technically sophisticated CNC machine tools. 2.) Generating CNC programs utilizing cutting-edge Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software, such as Siemens NX CAD/CAM/CAI CNC. 3.) Adept in CAD/CAM and skilled in utilizing various software packages like Siemens NX, as well as programming in G-codes & M-code. 4.) Operational processes related to the characteristics, capabilities, capacities, and metalworking principles of complex CNC systems. 5.) Capable of autonomously planning, organizing, and prioritizing assignments of significant variety and complexity, while ensuring adherence to deadlines, milestones, and budgets. 6.) Strong oral and written communication skills and excel in interpreting engineering drawings and visualizing objects in three-dimensional space. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:

  • Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
  • Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
