This position is located in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, in the Maintenance Division. Government housing may be available. This announcement is being advertised concurrently under number AK-1537-KLGO-24-1237862-ST which is open to all merit promotion and status candidates. Duties

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing building heating, electrical, and plumbing systems. In a normal year, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park receives over 1 million visitors annually, placing considerable demand on facilities and maintenance staff. The park maintains a suite of historic buildings in various stages of rehabilitation, some of which are rental properties; visitor contract stations and modern buildings; The park's assets consist of several trails including the iconic Chilkoot National Historic Trail, a historic town site, a campground, and green spaces. Maintenance Mechanic description: Maintains building heating and ventilation systems, including boilers, pumps, motors, related mechanical and electrical controls for residential, small-scale office building and back-country off-grid systems. Installs and maintains electrical equipment. Work consists of installing and troubleshooting power circuits and lighting fixtures. Performs general plumbing maintenance, such as maintaining plumbing to kitchen and bathroom fixtures and sprinkler systems and fuel supply pipe systems to small-commercial buildings and residences. Collateral responsibilities include infrequent equipment and vehicle maintenance, including providing or coordinating routine servicing of gasoline powered vehicles, and electric vehicles, and servicing light duty construction equipment including skid steer, scissor lifts, forklifts, the related attachments and associated hydraulics. First-line responder to heat system, water and plumbing system, electrical system, and fire system faults involving troubleshooting and problem-solving duties. The incumbent is actively involved in planning and implementation of project objectives in addition to regular operations and maintenance duties. A key component of the successful candidate is a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. Incumbent will work with lower graded employee(s) during the performance of most work to provide skills development training and additional capacity within the department.
