The primary purpose of this position is to administer the military personnel recognition program (awards, medals, decorations, commendations, unit, and special trophy).
Duties
Performs final clerical review of recommendations for awards, medals, decorations, commendations, and other actions submitted by units or processed by other clerks
Administers program and serves as the primary source of information for individuals, commanders, and other personnel on and off base regarding awards and decorations policies, procedures, and requirements
Updates, inquires, and processes actions through Personnel Data System. Responsible for input of data pertaining to awards and decorations
Uses a variety of office automation hardware, software, and peripherals in the performance of military personnel functions and performs other clerical support work

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-4, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include knowledge of, and skill in applying, a standardized body of military personnel rules, regulations, procedures, and precedents relating to the military awards and decorations program and resolve complex procedural and substantive problems. Knowledge of the format, content, and uses of the military personnel record. Knowledge of the organization and its functions and programs to answer inquiries of a general nature or to refer them to the responsible staff member.

EDUCATION: Applicants have successfully completed four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of official transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a standardized body of military policies and procedures relating to the military awards and decorations program and of the format, content, and uses of the military personnel record and the procedures and requirements regarding its maintenance
Knowledge of military organizational structure, protocol, and similar matters
Knowledge of general office administrative and clerical procedures
Knowledge of the military personnel automated system and office automation hardware, software, and peripherals. A qualified typist is not required
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationships
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
