THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION) TITLE 5, Position Description Number T5710600 and is part of the IL DCSIM, National Guard.
Duties
As a SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION) TITLE 5,GS-2210-12, you will serve as the senior systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting to support customer needs.
Provide executive leadership, guidance, and direction to ensure acquisition, development, and retention of a professional, highly capable workforce to accomplish assigned missions.
Coordinate the work of team members to ensure that short-term and long-term goals and objectives are met.
Direct, manage, and monitor a system of internal controls that ensure effective and appropriate use of resources.
Leverage optimization techniques to maximize the efficiency of all computer systems.
Establish performance standards and evaluates employee performance.
Review and approve: work plans to be accomplished by subordinates; set broad objectives; monitor subordinate employees' performance in providing IT services; review accomplishments; and take appropriate action of correction when deficiencies are noted.
Give advice, counsel, or instruct individual employees, on both work and administrative matters.
Develop and evaluate performance standards; recommend and approve awards; hear and resolve group employee grievances or serious employee complaints.
Review and make decisions on serious disciplinary actions involving employees and make decisions on work problems presented by subordinates.
Collaborate with other supervisors and managers within the directorate to negotiate, decide on, or coordinate work-related changes affecting them.
Advise supervisor(s) with broader and higher responsibilities on problems involving the relationship of the work of the system administration teams to broader programs, and its impact on IT Services.
Serve as a technical advisor to management.
Participate as a member and advisor on special committees and special projects designed to study methods to enhance the use of IT throughout the Command.
Maintain liaison with manufacturers and vendors, professional organizations, and counterparts at other commands/installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.
Plan and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
Advise staff on issues pertaining to operating systems and hardware status.
Resolve inquiries and problems concerning access, use, and availability of datacenter technologies.
Provide formal or informal training so users understand the relationships of the system and are able to work with the system without undue interruption.
Analyze, evaluate, and resolve malfunctions by adjusting equipment configurations, realigning port allocations, recommending appropriate acquisitions, and distinguishing between equipment, software, and operation problems.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must meet the following requirements: You must possess one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. This experience must include Information Technology (IT) related experience that includes experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment; experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.
SPECIALIZED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience in managing the function of the work to be performed; experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service.
