Job opening: Information Technology Specialist

Salary: $82 830 - 107 680 per year
Employment Type: Full-time

Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for Information Technology support for the Central District of Illinois. Typical work assignments will include: Maintaining network, architecture, and infrastructure; Configuring and maintaining servers, hubs, routers, and switches; Resolves hardware/software interface and interoperability problems; Optimizes system performance and identifies components to improve overall systems performance; Manages accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment; Monitors functionality, security and integrity of internet services; Manages internet servers; Installs, configures, and maintains litigation support equipment; Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains customer hardware and software. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: In order to meet basic qualifications for GS-2210 positions, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the competencies defined below: Attention to Detail - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant keeps abreast of latest technology, information, research, etc., to maintain knowledge in field of expertise (for example, reads trade journals, participates in professional/technical associations, maintains credentials). Customer Service - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant promotes or develops and maintains good working relationships with key individuals or groups. Oral Communication - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant serves on panels, committees, or task forces as a representative for the organization on technical or professional issues. Problem Solving - This skill is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant monitors current trends or events (for example, technological, economic, political, social, educational, or employment trends or events) and applies the information as appropriate. In addition to demonstrating the basic qualifications listed above, applicants must also demonstrate possession of specialized experience. GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet one full year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level. Specialized Experience: Qualifying experience demonstrates configuring, installing, or managing network systems; installing Windows based servers and maintaining existing servers; assessing Information Technology policy needs; establishing metrics to measure and evaluate systems performance; performing network diagnostics and resolving network problems; maintaining network architecture and infrastructure; installing and maintaining compatible database systems; and develops training to meet customer needs. Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP)-The CTAP provides eligible surplus and displaced competitive service employees in the Department of Justice with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
