Duties

Serves as a Research and Development Engineer or Scientist responsible for executing and managing research projects related to modeling and simulation for manned/unmanned ground vehicles. Perform physical testing of ground vehicles, ground vehicle autonomy, vehicle performance characterization/modeling, tire/terrain interactions, sensor physics/models, operations support and planning. Research projects may involve full or scale-model testing and or experiments, modeling and simulation, theoretical studies, and correlation of available data and information through statistical and or numerical methods. Develops new or enhances existing vehicle mobility, autonomy, and sensor perception modeling processes. Utilizes computer coding languages to perform analyses and develop tools. Quantifies vehicle mobility and autonomy performance through physical testing and/or developing vehicle mobility performance and autonomy evaluation and predictive tools through modeling and simulation. Develops software applications that can be integrated into integrated/interdisciplinary decision support systems. This position may be filled at either the Development DB-02 or the Full Performance Level DB-04

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R at the full performance level.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two- year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

This will be filled by direct hire authority by STRL advanced or Bachelors degree. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To Qualify at the DB-02 level: You must meet basic education requirements. To Qualify at the DB-04 level Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience demonstrating: 1) Developing and/or enhancing software-based transportation models; 2) Leading interdisciplinary teams; 3) Authoring professional publications; AND 4) Characterizing physical data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
