About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), Office of the ERDC Deputy Chief Information Officer (OCIO). This position will be filled at a DB-05 (GS-15) in the Information Technology Laboratory as any of the below series: 0801General Engineer 0808 Architect 0810 Civil Engineer 0854 Computer Engineer 1520 Mathematician 1550 Computer Scientist

Duties

Serves as the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL). Leads CIO staff of 25+ IT professionals in development of policy and ensures compliance with applicable USACE, Army, and DoD policies and regulations. Assists the ERDC CIO in managing execution of the ERDC’s IT program and in the CIO’s absence, assumes his/her authority and duties. Maintains and enhances the status of the ERDC’s computational infrastructure; its efficiency of operations and utilization of the best available technology; and its improvement and advancement of the stat-of-practice and knowledge in IT. Broad range of education, training, and experience in engineering, computer science, high performance computing, IT systems engineering, software development, and information technology, particularly with respect to Research and Development. Facilitates highly technical and strategic discussions between members of the Army CIO’s staff, USACE CECI, USACE ACEIT, DoD HPCMO, ERDC leadership, and all ERDC laboratories. Develops close working relationships with the ERDC laboratories to facilitate the development and transfer of ERDC products to the Corps, the Army, the DoD, and other ERDC customers. Supports ERDC by providing insight for future directions for the organization, promoting cooperative working relationships across the laboratories, and by helping to identify present and future challenges to the organization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 30% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year supervisory probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirement.
