Serves as a (Contract COR) Aerospace Engineering Technician in support of the Quality Assurance Subteam, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Program Operations.

Duties

Serves as On-site Representative, principal technical specialist, a project manager, or instructor and technical specialist for inspection practices and procedures. Provides Quality Control oversight of contracted work performed on the agency's fleet of aircraft. Provides the highest organizational level of technical support associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex airframe, mechanical components and electrical systems or sub-systems. Applies broad experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of assigned disciplines and specialties (aircraft maintenance), an understanding of new technologies and methods, and FAA policies and programs. Interprets documentation and other repair manuals to determine standards and policies, and test aircraft functions using diagnostic instruments to ensure standards meet regulatory compliance and that these standards are being met. This position requires a valid FAA Aircraft & Powerplant Certificate (A&P).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-I (GS/FG-13) level, applicants must have at least 52 weeks of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FV-H (GS/FG-12) level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes experience with troubleshooting and analyzing aircraft problems; utilizing diagnostic equipment to resolve performance discrepancies and determining airworthiness of highly modified aviation platforms.In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a selective factor for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR (SPF): Applicants must possess a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate AND document experience in one of the following: Working for a 14 CFR Part 121 Air Carrier in a maintenance environment with scheduled service and a fleet size greater than 50 OR experience in a 14 CFR Part 135 Air Carrier in a maintenance environment with a fleet size greater than 25 or more.Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
