This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Inspection Division, Office of Security Programs. This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as the Unit Chief and is responsible for implementing the functions, and exercising the authority of, the Personnel Security Section Chief and the Deputy Chief Inspector for the Office of Security Programs in administering, within DEA, the security regulations prescribed by Executive Orders and other external regulatory directives.

As a Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist your typical work assignments may include: Formulating, managing, implementing, and administering personnel security policies and procedures. Overseeing the review of investigations, reinvestigations and referrals containing personnel security issues, as well as, character and conduct to ensure all employee types continue to meet the requirements for federal service, continued service or warrant an unfavorable personnel security action. Assisting the Section Chief in assessing the long term effectiveness of program operations, by planning and conducting management surveys and/or research. Analyzing and evaluating quantitative or qualitative effectiveness of program operations in meeting established goals and objectives. Developing measurement criteria, procedures, and instruments to meet the needs of DEA clearance and suitability requirements. Performing the full range of supervisory functions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You may qualify at the GS-14 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Providing leadership or supervision in initiating and adjudicating public trust and national security investigations of complex and extremely sensitive and critical national security issues concerning employment of individuals/applicants for agency positions; 2) Providing advice, counsel, and technical services to agency program managers on issues relating to personnel security concerns; and, 3) Overseeing the decision-making authority for all final personnel security actions for cases at all levels of difficulty. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
