About the Position: Located in central New Jersey, Burlington County, Fort Dix is 72 miles southwest of New York City, 34 miles northeast of Philadelphia. Close to the Jersey shore, Fort Dix is also within short driving distance of a wide variety of leisure activities, cultural centers, museums, historical locations, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, snowboarding, hiking locations, etc.
Duties
Perform munitions inspections in accordance with the Ammunition Surveillance Procedures Manual.
Assist with the coordination of in and out shipments, receipts, warehousing, and all movements within the Ammunition Supply Point.
Issue ammunition to military units.
Assist with cyclic, quarterly and special inventories of ammunition.
Operate forklift truck to load/unload, transfer, transport, stack/unstack palletized goods, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Subject to a tour of duty to cover a 7-day work operation.
- Position will require occasional evening and/or holiday hours, to include mandatory overtime as mission dictates.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable government driver's License.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain installation forklift training certification and license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain ammunition certification in accordance with Army Materiel Command (AMC) Regulation 350-4.
- Must successfully clear local screening check on Department of the Army (DA) Form 7281, Command Oriented Arms, Ammunition and Explosives Security Screening and Evaluation Record.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. As such, incumbent is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, and drug testing when there is a reasonable suspicion that the incumbent uses illegal drugs.
- Position is covered by the 1998 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Pre-employment and annual physicals are required.
- Required to obtain and maintain Hazardous Materials Certification. Recertification is required every two years. Course is two weeks in duration.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 90 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Munitions Surveillance Inspector without more than normal supervision. 1) inspection of ammunition and components, ammunition surveillance files, warehouses, and ammunition shipments; and 2) enforcement of safety regulations while performing different types of ammunition and/or explosive operations; and 3) operation of a forklift or similar equipment to load/unload items. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts ammunition, explosives or related items weighing 30 to 90 pounds. Some assignments require lifts above 40 pounds at a production pace. May pull/push hand trucks weighing several hundred pounds. Requires sitting, walking, bending, reaching, crouching, climbing or long periods of standing. Needs endurance and good eye-hand coordination to work at a set pace and rhythm for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions: Works with, and in close proximity to unusually hazardous materials. Must exercise extreme care to prevent fires, explosions, etc. that could result in serious injury, dismemberment, and/or loss of life to self and/or other workers. Subject to hazards resulting from operation of industrial and production equipment, from assembly operations, or from working around the powered conveyors, etc., where accidents could result in serious injury. Performs duties in warm, well-lighted rooms, as well as outdoor harsh, sometimes extreme conditions or in buildings with little or no light and heat. Must stand on floors of concrete or conductive composition for long periods of time. Required wear protective clothing such as treated coveralls, protective masks, goggles, steel toed shoes or boots, gloves on many assignments. Possible exposure to an explosion or flash fire. Chance of injury ranging from burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises, sprains, nausea, to loss of life or limb.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
