You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will inspect assigned work sites for preventive maintenance, intimates appropriate corrective action. You will recommend new machines, tools, and the relocation of equipment. You will be responsible for initiation of Nuclear Work Permits. You will review work documents for adequacy and coordinate any needed changes in work procedures with shop and technical codes. You will interpret blueprints accompanying job orders and, as required,, prepare layouts, patterns, and sketches.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE *Determining sequence, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments relating to the defueling, refueling and core loading of an assigned nuclear submarine. *Estimating material, equipment and manpower needs. *Developing and implementing work and safety procedures. *Providing direction to subordinates within the shop to meet efficient and effective shop operations. *Planning division of workload. *Executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, promotions, etc. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
