You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will direct personnel in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and installing marine engines and other equipment, such as propulsion machinery auxiliary generators, pumps, compressor, and firefighting machinery on vessels.
You will coordinate with contractor technical representative personnel when assigned to perform troubleshooting, analysis, and/or repairs.
You will provide direction to workers by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group; ensuring proper work methods; and seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available.
You will determine performance of a satisfactory amount and quality of work and review products for acceptability.
You will actively support and promote all aspects of the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Laying-out, inspecting, repairing, relocating, modifying, and aligning a wide variety of marine machinery, equipment, and systems such as steam/gas turbines, reciprocating and centrifugal steam engines, reduction gears, transmission, shafts, propellers, pumps, compressors, condensers, and auxiliary engines located aboard submarines, ships, and other floating craft.
Determining sequence, priorities and deadlines of scheduled assignments; estimating material, equipment and manpower needs.
Developing and implementing work and safety procedures.
Executing administrative functions such as scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, deciding conduct related matters, and supporting Equal Employment Opportunity principles and practices.
