Job opening: AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC (TRADE SME)

Salary: $34 - 40 per hour
Employment Type: Full-time
You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic (Trade Subject Matter Expert) in the Production Division, Public Works Department Great Lakes, of Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic.

Duties

You will work from blueprints, specifications, and wiring schematics to locate problems with air conditioning units. You will use tools to check heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system performance (e.g., high and low side pressures, temperatures and pressures of liquid and suction lines, running times of system mechanisms). You will install and maintain special purpose heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC R) systems for non-critical and critical areas to provide near or exact climatic conditions. You will select tools to install replacement parts on air conditioning units and refrigeration systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel via Military or Commercial airlines.
  • You will be required obtain and maintain CPR certification
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This may be a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Interpreting instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Installing and repairing a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment; AND 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
