You will serve as a NON-NUCLEAR SHIP SYSTEMS INSPECTOR in the Quality Assurance Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.

Duties

You will perform inspections and tests on non-nuclear mechanical, piping, and structural systems, including subassemblies and component parts related to deep diving submarines. You will perform in-process inspections at various checkpoints during repair, reassembly, test, and reinstallation of systems and associated components and equipment. You will conduct pretest and final inspection after system and component repairs are complete. You will witness shop and shipboard tests to verify and document component, equipment, and system strength and tightness as well as satisfactory operation and performance. You will verify, witness installation of, and properly document, installation and replacement of software and hardware as required by specifications. You will verify, witness in process phases of the painting process for surveillance or third party independent inspections. You will participate in the conduct of audits and in-process surveillance, submit reports and recommending corrective action to discrepancies. You will maintain files, charts, plans, and status reports of inspections, work documents, and deficiencies. You will investigate and submit reports on incidents and problem areas, sometimes recommending appropriate corrective actions.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The work may require you to work in areas of high and low ambient temperatures.
  • The work is conducted inside or outdoors in all types of weather conditions and, occasionally, works on or around rotating machinery. You will work in areas of poor footing and open spaces, dry docks, open hatches, etc.
  • Tools and equipment used seldom weigh over forty pounds and are not carried more than 100 feet.
  • Work normally involves period of walking, climbing in ships and submarines, and working at high elevations.
  • The work involves prolonged periods of standing, stooping, crouching, and sitting in confined or cramped quarters, under conditions of special dress, occasionally wearing a special breathing apparatus.
