Duties

You will perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment and operate the domestic wastewater collection pumping stations. You will manually rake the bar screen and disposes of the debris in a dedicated dumpster. You will remove solids to a digester system and holding tank for disposal on designated application sites on base. You will operate a reactor by controlling dissolved oxygen levels and proper mixing of the mixed liquor to adequately control ammonia and nitrate levels for nitrogen and phosphorous removal.. You will add acetic acid for a biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) (food) source to enhance the conversion of ammonia nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen in the reactor.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and maintain on base privileges once obtained.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.
  • Must obtain the required NC Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's State Certification within six months of being hired.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision: Monitor and control sewage pump stations and wastewater using the plant's computer system. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
