This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will perform regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment and operate the domestic wastewater collection pumping stations aboard MCAS Cherry Point.
You will manually rake the bar screen and dispose of the debris in a dedicated dumpster.
You will operate the reactor by controlling dissolved oxygen levels and proper mixing of the mixed liquor to adequately control ammonia and nitrate levels for nitrogen and phosphorous removal.
You will pump the wastewater to two gravity sand filter units for tertiary treatment and decreased turbidity of the wastewater.
You will monitor and control the sewage pump stations and wastewater plant by utilizing the plants computer system.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You must possess a Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification.
- You will be subject to call back for work during off-duty hours when an emergency arises.
- You must obtain the required NC Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's State Certification (at your own expense) within six months of being hired.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- During destructive weather conditions such as, but not limited to, ice and snowstorms, high winds and hurricanes incumbent may be required to report for duty.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job.The Screen-out Element for this position is: Operating, cleaning, and maintaining seweage pumping and treatment facilities in the Sewage Disposal Plant and supporting pumping stations to process and condition domestic waste.
