This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Inspection Division, Office of Security Programs, DEFENSIVE COUNTERINTELLIGENCE UNIT (ISTB).
This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as the expert in the multidisciplinary fields of counterintelligence, security, information assurance, workforce protection, and related subject matter areas as they pertain to counterintelligence threats. Providing support by identifying new and existing counterintelligence risks.

As a SECURITY SPECIALIST (INSIDER THREAT), your typical work assignments may include:
Collecting and analyzing counterintelligence information for compliance with Federal and DOJ regulations and directives.
Developing recommendations and processes to improve counterintelligence (CI) operational performance ensuring adherence to agency policies and procedures.
Advising security officers and managers on new developments and advances in security, such as new techniques and systems to mitigate counterintelligence threats.
Assisting in the development of standard operating procedures, policies, and criteria for program performance.
Evaluating general security incidents based on reports from insider threat, security, cybersecurity, human resources, law enforcement, and other sources.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.
You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Assisting counterintelligence support activities to include briefings, debriefings, and writing of counterintelligence assessments; 2) Reviewing counterintelligence information for accuracy and relevance; 3) Identifying counterintelligence threats to personnel and information systems.
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) performing the following duties: 1) Conducting counterintelligence support activities to include briefings, debriefings, and writing of counterintelligence assessments; 2) Analyzing counterintelligence information for accuracy and relevance; 3) Mitigating counterintelligence threats to personnel and information systems; 4) Analyzing counterintelligence vulnerabilities.
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
