About the Position: This position is located within the Womack Medical Center in Fort Liberty, NC. Incumbent will serve and an Inventory Management Specialist responsible for management of assigned medical and surgical supplies within a medical treatment facility (MTF).

Duties

Serve as an Inventory Management Specialist for all standard and nonstandard medical/surgical supplies and equipment within a medical treatment facility (MTF). Initiate, review and process procurement requests for medical/surgical supplies. Coordinate with Department of Logistics personnel, Prime Vendor and/or Purchasing and Contracting to confirm timely receipt of medical supplies. Conduct extensive fact finding and analysis to determine stock availability, suitability and best price. Determine appropriate vendor for needed items. Determine method of procurement based on cost, shipment time, and/or other technical factors such as interchangeability and equivalency of the item of supply. Utilize automated medical logistics systems s to verify the accuracy of recurring reports for leaders. Determine how items are to be stocked in accordance with shelving, refrigerator, freezing, and/or first in/first-out procedures to reduce or eliminates loss from expiration. Enter budgetary information into appropriate database per guidelines, policies, or procedures for medical supplies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an on-call basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position has been designated Weather Essential. Incumbent may be required to report to work during periods of inclement weather.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a favorable result from a National Agency Background Check.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Supply Chain Management or Logistics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Financial ManagementMedical Supply Inventory ManagementSupply Support Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
