The incumbent serves independently as a journeymen Plumber in the Facilities Management Service Line (FMSL), Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Section, Preventive Maintenance Shop at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC). Incumbent will be assigned to one of three shifts providing 24-hour a day coverage, 7 days a week in the Preventive Maintenance (PM) Shop. Incumbent performs the full range of tasks involved in installing, modifying and repairing plumbing fixtures.
Duties
Possess knowledge of the National Plumbing Code, National Gas Code and VA Regulations, Federal, State, and local codes.
Recognizes priorities and reacts promptly to urgent requests and occurrences.
Independently plans, layout and assemblies of plumbing equipment.
Identify appropriate materials for a variety of plumbing applications that include laboratories,
patient care areas, medical gas systems, dental gases.
Install plumbing systems parts that carry water, gas, air, storm, and sanitary sewerages;
installs traps, lavatories, etc. and other types of plumbing equipment.
Performs a variety of preventive maintenance duties in repair, alteration, and modifications
of mechanical equipment.
Accomplishes assigns tasks by written or oral work order request independently and in a
timely manner.
Maintains and installs plumbing and piping systems that meet VA, Federal, State, and local
plumbing codes.
Work Schedule: Sunday- Thursday 3:30pm-12:00am ( Subject to change based upon the needs of the Agency.)

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work of the position must be performed on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, ditches, or in hard-to-reach places requiring standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and generally working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment weighing 40 pounds or up to 75 pounds with assistance. Occasionally objects of heavier weights must be handled.
