If so, please consider joining the Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH). This position may be filled at either the Research Triangle Park, Durham, NC location, or the NIH Main Campus, in Bethesda, MD.
Duties
Typical duties of the position include:
Serve as a Communications Specialist assisting the OCPL leadership, broader communications team, and program staff with all facets of the communications activities in support of the NIH-wide Climate Change and Health Initiative.
Research, develop, design, and implement communications projects and tasks, including testing and using appropriate vehicles for communicating information about OCPL and its programs.
Inform senior leadership about potentially sensitive issues provides advice regarding new policies and procedures and responding to requests for information. Coordinating activities with Public Information Offices and staff NIH-wide.
Independently design and carry out a variety of projects and communications strategies to enhance the dissemination of information and increasing the understanding of the OCPL mission and the accomplishments of the Office.
Oversee and develop, edit, and manage material for the public communications channels of OCPL and its affiliated websites, as needed.
Research material using a variety of sources to develop content and coordinates with other program components. Written products articulate and explain highly complex, potentially sensitive or controversial, and important technical issues.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with NIH, DHHS, Congressional, scientific communities, the public, representatives of other Federal agencies, and universities to facilitate information exchange about OCPL programs.
Serve as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for the NIH Climate Change and Health Initiative (CCHI) website contract.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing webpage content and overseeing website support contracts; developing materials to educate target audiences on research grant and training opportunities; coordinating program launches; creating social media posts; editing scientific reports; writing press releases, and handling news media inquiries in coordination with scientific staff; facilitating communications workgroups and committees; and developing health program communications plans or strategies for an activity or workgroup.
