As the Communications Director, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), this position serves as the Supervisory Health Communications Specialist responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all NIMHD. The position entails promoting public understanding of NIMHD research programs and accomplishments and dissemination of new knowledge gained from NIMHD research to an extensive range of critical audiences.
Duties
Monitor advances and trends in research, and develops strategies for communicating basic and clinically applicable research results.
Direct the planning and implementation of national information/public health education/outreach programs that promote NIMHD goals, research and programs.
Establish and maintain effective working relationship with news media, including handling media inquiries, initiating news media contacts and fostering appropriate coverage.
Supervise the planning and implementation of nationwide mass media and other public health campaigns to support various aspects of NIMHD research programs.
Oversee the management of the production function for all NIMHD publications for print and electronic dissemination.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Communications Specialist position at the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and conducting a comprehensive communications program for an organization; directing the planning and implementation of national information/public health education/outreach programs that promote organization goals, research and programs; advising senior leadership on the health education, public information, and press relations implications of proposed management decisions and policies; and overseeing the management of the production function for all publications for print and electronic dissemination.
