Duties
Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determine the code accurately reflects the procedures used.
Uses specialized procedures and methods to correct and amend records.
Perform analysis of records for completeness and accuracy.
Verify coding is in accordance medical/legal requirements, standards and regulation.
Maintains patient confidentiality and guards against unauthorized disclosure of medical information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is inclement weather essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using various office automated systems, software, and electronic health records; Utilizing medical record notes to apply ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS in medical record using coding systems; retrieving information from database to make coding edits and/or corrections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

********Certification from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) with either Clinical Coding Associate (CCA), Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), Clinical Coding Specialist - Provide Based (CCS-P), or American Academy of Professional Coders Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A) is preferred but not required.
