The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Information Technology (IT) specialist responsible for base level assistance in the operation and maintenance of the installation's computer network and to provide technical assistance, training, and support to customers.

Duties

Serves as the Information Technology (IT) Equipment Control Officer for all equipment on the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN). Manages the Wing Software License program. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities over a limited staff. Analyzes and resolves problem trends. Provides customer support, assistance, training, and orientation.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
  • IAW SA-2020-25 This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical/medical requirements of this position as determined are: Occasional lifting and moving of boxes up to 50 pounds and ability to operate manual pallet jack.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Individual Occupational Requirements for the Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ EDUCATION: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (Note: You must submit copies of your official transcripts) OR EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving AND have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: The utilization of configuration/life cycle management concepts to identify the need to upgrade or enhance IT hardware and software capabilities in response to problems and deficiencies; the application of customer support principles to receive, respond to, and ensure resolution of problems; coordinating with management officials to ensure the implementation of IT systems, software, and hardware satisfies organizational mission requirements; the utilization of methods and procedures for documenting problem analysis and resolutions to maintain records of activities; and the application of troubleshooting/data analysis methods to resolve operating problems. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software components. Knowledge of customer support principals, methods, and procedures for documenting problem resolutions and providing guidance and training to customers. Knowledge of concepts and techniques required to assist in the planning, operation, maintenance, and life cycle refresh of hardware and software that operates on the LAN/WAN, including the installation and implementation of enhancements. Knowledge of the procedures and techniques necessary to gather, synthesize, and draw conclusions regarding trend analysis. Knowledge of information technology (IT) supply chain security and risk management policies, requirements, and procedures. Knowledge of resource management principles and techniques with the ability to apply to the information technology (IT) acquisition/procurement life cycle process; Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, regulations, and procedures. Ability to communicate factual and procedural information clearly, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
