This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Communications (OC), Call Center Operations Group, in the Division of Call Center Systems.
As a IT Specialist (Security), GS-2210-12, you will review, analyze, promote, and implement awareness of HHS enterprise-wide information technology (IT) security and/or system development life cycle (SDLC) policies and standards.
Duties
Develops procedures, awareness programs, and supporting templates to aid stakeholders in developing their HHS certification and accreditation and/or system development lifecycle (SDLC) artifacts.
Drafts strategies for developing system development quality assurance (QA) program management office.
Prepares internal and external reports that may include providing audit liaison support to IT operations, such as the Federal Information Security Act (FISMA), Chief Financial Officer, and others as directed.
Provides internal reporting to CIO on IT governance activities, such as periodic reports capturing the status of HHS systems’ compliance with HHS security metrics.

In order to qualify for the GS-12, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
1) Contributing to the IT system development life cycle through planning, analysis, testing, or implementation;
2) Promoting stakeholder awareness of IT system security policies and processes; and
3) Preparing reports, position papers, or memoranda related to information security system development life cycle policies or
standards.
Applicants must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2) Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your
work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the

3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account

4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and
evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
