You will serve as a ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will drive and operator heavy equipment, trucks and forklifts to collect and process recycle and compost materials. You will inspect work while in progress, at completion, and investigates and resolves problems and recommending solutions as necessary to work leader or supervisor. You will operate and perform required maintenance such as checking brakes, warning devices, air, oil, electrical, and temperature gauges for proper operation. You will plan the best sequence of arranging, picking up, and setting out equipment in order to accomplish work with the least number of moves, save time, meet deadlines, and comply with the safety regulations and practices. You will determine shortest and safest routes for both short and long runs, considering the height and weight of the vehicle, and the safe loading and unloading of vehicles. You will handle loading and movement of cargo and ensure that material or equipment transported are properly placed, tied down securely, and follow pertinent regulations, instructions, and requirements. You will operate heavy equipment in accordance with safety rules and regulations.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the state of Washington.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain additional licensing or training, eg,. forklift, bailer, sorter, etc. or other equipment associated with recycle and compost operations.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work requires the employee to drive a vehicle. Incumbent will be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Qualifications

You are required to possess a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (Note: Copy of Licenses must be attached to your recruitment documents to be considered for this position.) Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Operating gasoline or diesel powered, wheeled or tracked heavy equipment; 2) Using basic equipment to tow and operate various accessories; and 3) Completing the appropriate vehicle check lists noting the required preventive maintenance and deficiencies for the various vehicles and equipment.
