About the Position: This position is a Transportation Assistant (Inspection / Office Automation), GS-2102-07, located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 404th Field Support Brigade in Fort Johnson, Louisiana.
This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
Duties
Qualify carriers for storage of Department of Defense (DOD) sponsored personal property shipments through inspections.
Identify deficiencies in packing methods and requirements to determine extent and severity of any potential problem area.
Manage pertinent documentation and forms in order to support actions and inspection's results.
Identify deficiencies in shipments and packaging for corrective action.
Check for evidence that packing is correct on material being delivered.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires temporary duty (TDY) business travel approximately 20% of the time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate valid state driver's license.
- May be required to work various hours to include holidays, weekends, or on-call duty.
- Overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of related mission requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operation certificate, within 30 days of employment.
- A qualified typist (at least 40 wpm with 3 or fewer errors) is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) Understanding of personal property shipping regulations and/or transportation background; (2) Resolving issues involved in movements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
