The primary purpose of this position is to assist the installation Fitness & Sports Manager in providing comprehensive health & fitness evaluations to the active duty population assigned to base level installations with the goal of centralizing & standardizing fitness testing requirements & fitness improvement programs as they relate to the US Air Force Fitness Program.
Duties
Plans, develops, organizes, manages, and supervises installation fitness assessment program.
Ensures fitness assessment equipment is procured, maintained, and replaced as needed.
Uses word processing equipment to generate a variety of products.
Initiates administrative procedures for members identified as not meeting fitness standards.
Advises and provides guidance to Recreation Assistants in the performance of fitness testing and related duties.

- Measurements for height, weight and body composition will be taken in a private room or in a partitioned area away from the general flow of customers using a tape measure IAW AF guidance.
- Requires annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/BLS/AED) Certification.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours.
- Must complete all mandatory training IAW appropriate regulations, and maintain certification in standard first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- A Pre-Employment physical is required.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of physical fitness programs which include knowledge of exercise science, strength conditioning, nutrition, weight loss/control, cardiovascular endurance, and exercise prescription of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology as related to exercise and physical fitness; and assessment principles and procedures and exercise testing equipment and of fitness industry trends, market analysis, and customer needs. Knowledge of various sports and fitness activities, services, participant interests and needs to develop and conduct quality sports and fitness programs.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts with your application.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of exercise physiology and exercise techniques to conduct physical fitness evaluations in accordance with Air Force guidance.
Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs.
Knowledge of Air Force fitness assessment standards, protocols, and procedures.
Knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare material correctly.
Skill in administering sub maximal cardiovascular endurance tests.
Ability to orient lower graded employees, distribute/balance work assignments, and monitor work accomplishment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
