About the Position: This position is located with the Environmental Division, Wildlife Management Branch, Directorate of Public Works, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Duties

Serves as Field Supervisor responsible for monitoring and management of Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) on the installation. Plans, develops and supervises implementation of scientifically valid management and monitoring programs for fish and wildlife resources on the installation. Performs TES population surveys, red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW) cluster monitoring, and capture and marking of individual animals. Assists the Projects Biologist with Biological Assessments under the Endangered Species Act using GIS-based tools to analyze impacts to TES. Identifies program fiscal and equipment requirements and initiates procurement actions. Assists the Branch Chief with management of the Installation's ACUB program and expenditures related to Cooperative Agreements. Identifies program fiscal and equipment requirements and initiates procurement actions. Develops contract specifications, scopes of work, and quality control standards. Maintains state and federal permits required for handling and marking wildlife.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring and management of fish and wildlife resources; colleting habitat quality data and recording wildlife observations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources Management; Wildlife Management or a related field. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
