About the Position:The installation Covers 280,000 acres including parts of Liberty, Long, Tattnall, Evans and Bryan counties in southeast Georgia. Fort Stewart is adjacent to Hinesville Georgia and is about 45 miles from Savannah Georgia. Fort Stewart is within one hour of three beaches, Tybee Island, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island.
Duties
Plans and conducts biological surveys and management activities required for the protection and enhancement of TES populations on the installation and surrounding lands impacted by military training.
Reviews military training activities and project proposals for impacts on threatened and endangered species and makes appropriate recommendations for such modifications as may be needed.
Prepares statistical and narrative reports, correspondence, and briefings for command group and other staff elements as required.
Plans and assigns work; furnishes information as to schedules, priorities, objectives and problems that may be encountered.
Provides advice and assistance as needed with problems, and spot checks or reviews work as necessary to ensure satisfactory accomplishment in conformance with established practices and procedures and adherence to performance standards.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position. Incumbent may have access to a firearm.
- This position is subject to pre employment and annual drug testing.
- The following immunizations are required: Tetanus and Rabies Prophylaxis.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirement for Supervisory Wildlife Biologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
NOTE: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes develop, recommend alternatives, or make adjustments to wildlife and habitat management plans and programs; and determine environmental impact of proposed projects pertaining to the protection or enhancement of Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) populations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
