About the Position: Incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief, range operations branch, Range Division, and is available for advice and guidance on unusual or unprecedented problems encountered. Incumbent performs work independently. Work is reviewed for meeting training support goals, resolution of problems, and integration of varied activities without disruption to on-going operations.
Duties
Review and compare the Daily Range Schedule, unit certification memoranda, SOPs, firing orders, Range Contracts, surface danger zone (SDZ) overlays, firing data and diagrams, and barrier plans for direct and indirect live-fire.
Documents safety incidents or accidents using Spot Report format.
Analyzes safety hazards related to the operation of facilities on a training range complex.
Advises unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of weapons used in military training (such as small arms, missiles, mortars, artillery, etc.)
Requirements
- Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This is a Mission Essential position. The incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to 39 pounds.
- This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
- This position may require shift work including evening, weekends, and holidays.
- This position requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assist in patrolling live fire range complexes to ensure compliance with regulations and safety procedures; Operate range safety radio network to control live fire training operations and assist in maintaining data on range and training inspections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
