About the Position: This position is for a Secretary (Office Automation) with the US Army Space & Missile Defense Command, located at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
This position is covered under an alternative personnel system known as the DoD Acquisition Workforce Demonstration Project. This position incorporates former GS-08 step 1 through GS-10 step 10 grade levels and salary levels.
Duties
Serves as personal secretary and office manager for United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Deputy Commanding General for Operations and United States Army Space Command.
Keeps the DCG-O informed of daily activities, administrative problems encountered, and the means of resolution by staff personnel.
Serves as the primary point of contact for the Deputy Commanding General for Operations’ (DCG-O) calendar with authority to commit.
Arranges conferences/meetings hosted by supervisor and other command officials.
Performs the full range of administrative and secretarial duties required in support of the DCG-O’s office.
Ensures the practices and procedures used by secretaries in subordinate offices are consistent with DA guidance and procedures established for the organization.
Plans appointments and meetings according to DCG-O’s priorities, allowing flexibility to accommodate urgent situations regarding changes in programs/budget considerations.
Performs research in all known sources or makes necessary contacts to obtain and brief material/information needed by supervisor to enable incumbent to make considered and accurate policy decisions or direct proper action.
Reviews all correspondence for clarity, grammar and phraseology desired by the DCG-O and correct format.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in preparing, reviewing and maintaining a variety of mission related documents, and composing official correspondence; and providing guidance and assistance to facilitate administrative actions and ensure adequate responses to various management requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NK-02 or GS-07).
TYPING PROFICIENCY: In addition to the specialized experience listed above: This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
