You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECH (NUCLEAR) in the ASST NUCLEAR ENGINEERING & PLANNING MANAGER, NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will serve as the technical expert and central point of engineering authority for his or her field of responsibility. You will identify and correct deficiencies. You will prepare and review detailed work instructions for his or her area of responsibility, ensuring that all appropriate engineering, radiological, and safety requirements are met. You will troubleshoot problems and engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • You may be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience working with nuclear engineering technician principles and practices including planning for work, preparing engineering work instructions, and reviewing of engineering work done by shipyard mechanics. *Experience performing duties such as creating mathematical concepts and engineering drawings. *Experience utilizing engineering technician principles and theories in various engineering areas. *Experience manifesting and preparing shipment for radioactive waste and other materials. *Experience writing technical work instructions in a clear and concise manner. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: *Experience working with the design, installation, testing and operation of nuclear reactors, nuclear power plants and other nuclear systems. *Experience planning and implementing long-range improvement projects. *Experience providing engineering technician support at the job site for complex or first-time jobs. *Experience processing, packaging, and disposing of solid radioactive waste.
