This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Office of Archival Operations - Philadelphia. The incumbent will perform a broad range of functions required for the acquisition, storage, maintenance and access of NARA's archival holdings. This could include accessioning, processing, arranging, describing, digitizing, and preserving archival records and providing public services that support access.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an ARCHIVES SPECIALIST, you will:
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position must include:
Utilizing a wide range of systems or databases to search beyond readily accessible material to locate, analyze, index, and manage records; AND
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices; AND
Providing customer service and guidance with record research, reference and/or access services.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related;
OR
Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
The total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-07 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position must include:
Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practices; AND
Providing customer service and guidance with record research and reference and access services.
OR
Education: 1 full year of graduate level education OR superior academic achievement based on a Bachelor's degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society;
OR
Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the educational requirement must equal at least 100 percent.

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
