This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will be responsible for a wide variety of automated systems, system applications, creation of visual presentations/products working with visual information software.

Duties

As a VISUAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST at the GS-1084-11/12 some of your typical work assignments may include: Provides technical and administrative advice regarding the development of visual and audio-visual presentations and publications. Advises and actively participates in the planning, design, format, development, editing, and quality control of visual information products. Ability to create computer illustrations, cartooning, and multi-dimensional computer designs, incorporating photographs, type fonts, and illustrations. Ability to utilize and perform basic troubleshooting procedures on various color and black and white visual information output devices. Independently organizes the visual information work, and to ensure that all requirements are met to the satisfaction of client organizations and personnel. Consults with clients to assess visual information needs, tailors products to unique requirements, and resolves differences of artistic opinion between the staff and clients. Determines visual information requirements, provides advice and guidance on plans and proposals, counsels requesters on visual information implications of their projects, and develops agreement as to approach with regard to visual information needs. Ability to use large format and high capacity printing, including Fiery software, binding and finishing techniques, to support customer needs.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS GS-12 , if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below: Experience in a wide variety of methods, techniques, and automated systems and systems applications used in the design, production and reproduction of visual information products. Has experience of photographic processes and high-capacity printing/finishing best practices. Has experience in transforming verbal depictions of objects, events, and processes into visual presentations without benefit of pictures, diagrams or preexisting material. Has experience in applying a wide range of visual information software and applications in the creation of visual presentations and products on both PC and Macintosh platforms, and the ability to use and manipulate files across these platforms. You may qualify at the GS GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service as listed below: Experience working with automated systems and applications used in the design, production and reproduction of visual information products. Has assisted with photographic processes and printing techniques. Has assisted with the transforming of verbal depictions of objects, events, and processes into visual presentations without benefit of pictures, diagrams, or preexisting material. Experience in applying a range of visual information software in assisting with the creation of visual presentations and products on both PC and Macintosh platforms. B. A Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1084, series as listed below: A. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR B. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for the GS-12 grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
