This position is part of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The incumbent will be responsible for a wide variety of automated systems, system applications, creation of visual presentations/products working with visual information software.

Duties

As a VISUAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST at the GS-1084-13 some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as senior consultant and technical expert in visual information, communications, and computer graphics. Designs and illustrates abstract ideas and concepts and graphically depicts highly technical information for use in visual presentations and publications to senior leadership and individuals within and outside the agency. Designs layouts to provide a simplified explanation of extremely complex programs or subjects, enabling audiences to grasp the situation quickly; researches and collects data necessary to support presentations; completes products for display or reproduction purposes, handouts, charts, graphs, digital photographs, compact discs (CDs), web pages, and electronic presentations utilizing various imaging equipment, such as computer graphics technology, scanners, engravers and printers. Develops and coordinates on final graphics and prototypes that reflect the nature of the work, complexity of production, potential effects on the primary and peripheral audiences, and overall cost effectiveness. Provides technical oversight, guidance, and training to printing technicians and visual information specialists regarding operational printing activities and reviews final products by other personnel for acceptance or rejection ensuring the highest quality products possible.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service: Managing high-capacity printing capabilities that includes binding, fabrication, and finishing ensuring the application of the best business practices and delivery of quality products. Working knowledge of the Canon Fiery software to control high-capacity printers and Adobe Creative Suite software. Developing estimates for near-term and out years printing budgets with ability to defend requirements. In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the GS-1084, series as listed below: A. Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR B. Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for the GS-13 grade level.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

Foreign education may be qualifying if a private organization specializing in interpreting foreign education programs has deemed the foreign education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program or a U.S. accredited college or university has given full credit for the foreign courses.

Unofficial transcripts from U.S. Department of Education accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions listing your name, the name of the school, the date and degree awarded, and the list of classes and credits earned are acceptable for the application process. If selected, official transcripts are required before a firm job offer is made. A photocopy of your degree/diploma is not acceptable.

When relying on foreign education, submit transcripts and a copy of the equivalency evaluation results letter with a course-by-course listing.
