Duties

Applies the principles of visual design, the knowledge of the technical characteristics associated with various methods of visual presentation; and the ability to present subject matter information in a visual form that will convey the intended message to or have the desired effect on, the intended audience. Provide design and management expertise to maintain and improve the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) internal publications of, at a minimum, the Defense Acquisition Research Journal (ARJ) and Defense Acquisition magazine websites. Apply design principles and best practices for an optimal reader experience. Review and tests new pages to ensure correct formatting, optimum display of graphics, and proper functionality on website. Establish a digital publishing workflow for the web team, establishes appropriate milestone schedules and necessary checks throughout the publishing process to stay on task and meet customer needs and deadlines. Coordinate the timely online publication of complex web pages under changing deadlines. Design and develop a new digital subscription page for publications (Defense ARJ and Defense Acquisition magazine at a minimum) that is suitable for use on the website and encourages new digital subscribers. Maintain the digital subscription lists and ensure proper handling of CUI and PII. Support the enterprise with digital photography capabilities for DAU publications, internal stock photographs, and DAU hosted events.

  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
  • You may be required to serve a one (1) year probationary period.
  • The incumbent of this position may be required to work overtime, irregular shifts, and/or on the weekend.
  • Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) - Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. OR Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience with various presentation media including photography, computer graphics, visual arts and reproduction processes and their capabilities. Experience with computer graphics equipment as a tool to perform the duties of a visual information position. Experience with the principles of artistic design and display and their application to the field of visual communication. Experience and skill in visualizing objects, materials, ideas and information sufficient to create the effect specified by a client. Has working knowledge of DRUPAL and Adobe Creative Suite and how to effectively employ products and deliverables. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
