This position is part of the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Energy in the Management and Administration (MA). As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will work in close coordination with DOE Personnel Security based on established roles and responsibilities between OIG and DOE. Position requires the incumbent to have access to highly classified/restricted data documents and/or materials.

As a Security Personnel Specialist, you will:

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • This employer participates in the e-Verify program.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • This position has been designated as Critical-Sensitive and requires a security clearance at the Tier 5. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
  • This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.
  • This position is not included in a Bargaining Unit.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-09: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting all of the following: Applying basic principles, policies, and methods of security administration in order to complete assignments. Initiating background investigations and reviewing forms for accuracy and completeness before case is released for investigation OR A Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of graduate-level education with a major study in public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields related to the position to be filled. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR A combination of education and experience as described above that when added together equal 1 year. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Gathering records of evidence in support of proposed personnel security and suitability actions and decisions. Submitting disposition requests to the appropriate court, law enforcement agency, or other source in order to obtain clarification or additional information regarding cases. Reviewing personnel investigations and referrals containing suitability issues to determine if cases warrant unfavorable suitability action. OR A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of graduate-level education with a major study in public administration, business administration, industrial engineering, industrial management, or other administrative or management fields related to the position to be filled. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR A combination of education and experience as described above that when added together equal 1 year. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Administrative and Management Group Standard "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration.

Education

If substituting education for specialized experience you must submit proof of your qualifying education. Failure to provide college transcripts may result in a rating of 'Ineligible'. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be reviewed by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
