About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the HQ USSOUTHCOM, Security and Intelligence Directorate, Miami, Florida, with duty location Doral, Florida.

Duties

Serves as the J2 lead intelligence planner for the SOUTHCOM area of operations (AOR) and threat-based plans. Serves as an integration team leader, senior strategic planner, and joint planning subject matter expert tasked with integrating the Joint Planning Process (JPP) into adaptive planning products. Serve as the action officer for Joint Operational Planning of command (USSOUTHCOM)campaign/contingency efforts. Provides guidance and technical assistance in the development of plans and orders to support real world contingencies and military training exercises. Coordinates with operations personnel, deploy to attend conferences, meetings, conduct reconnaissance and write military orders. Represents USSOUTHCOM J2 by conducting daily liaison with joint, allied, coalition, and subordinate intelligence planning activities.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance based on a T5 (or equivalent level) investigation with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI).
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel may be required 25% or less of the time.
  • This position is considered Key and the essential nature of the position prohibits the position from being vacated during a national emergency or mobilization and cannot be filled by Ready Reservists or military retirees with recall obligations.
  • Must be able to participate in readiness exercises.
  • Typically, subject to regular work hours Monday through Friday excluding holidays; however, maybe required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, extended work hours (12-hour shifts), and/or holidays.
  • Work may require travel away from the normal duty station on military and/or commercial aircraft.
  • Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required.
  • Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a US Government official passport.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial period may be required.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Consolidated Intelligence Strategic PlanningIntelligence Exercise PlannerOral Communication Progressively responsible experience is that which has included intelligence-related research, analysis, collections and /or operations. This experience should have included intelligence analysis and/or production, intelligence collection and/or operations, counterintelligence, or threat support directly related to the position to be filled. This experience should demonstrate: Knowledge of intelligence processes, cycle and organizations; Knowledge of and/or ability to use research tools such as library holdings, photographs, statistics, graphics and maps; Knowledge of the systems, procedures and methods of analyzing, compiling, reporting and disseminating intelligence data; and/or Knowledge of organization(s) for and methods of collecting and analyzing intelligence data.
