Duties

Provide reference and research assistance to library clientele in medical and related fields. Interact with clientele to establish their needs. Responsible for the collection development and management for a medical library. Ensure that access to information at other libraries and centers is available through the inter-library loan process. Ensure catalog records are accurate and current. Serve as the professional responsible for specialized collection of information resources within a medical library. Review bibliographies to recommend materials in designated subject specialties.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: utilizing library automated systems to research, classify and catalog source materials; establishing the needs and requirements of costumers; educating customers in the use of various audio and/or electronic database tools; reviewing materials for a medical library collection to determine correct classification. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07) OR Education: 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
