About the Position: Provides comprehensive information services, including reference, research, reader advisory, and instruction; Serves as Webmaster and administrator of the library's homepage; manages marketing programs for the library; and assists with the administrative and technical direction of library services as a Librarian (Medical Science).

Duties

Conducts reference and research primarily in health oriented subject areas such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health, and health care administration, but also in general subjects. Participates with other library staff in the development, design, organization, expansion, and revision of the library's website. Plans and manages electronic media for access to bibliographic and full text databases. Manages marketing program including outreach and Publicity programs and special events such as exhibits of new materials, specialized bibliographies, commemorative events, or support programs. Assists with the administrative and technical direction of library services and directs library operations in the absence of the Chief.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to work a scheduled evening tour of duty or Sunday shift in rotation with other staff members.
  • This position requires that the employee occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 25% of the time.

Basic Requirements: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. OR A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. AND Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes providing support as a systems administrator for an integrated online library system overseeing multiple libraries to include the functions of cataloging, collection management, acquisitions, circulation, and interlibrary loan; applying knowledge of library methods, and principles of collection development and management to select and maintain materials that reflect present and anticipated user needs; identifying a wide range of cataloging and classification rules and principles to catalog materials that deviate from standard approaches; troubleshooting Library Automation systems, questions, and problems called in by patrons or library staff; conducting references and research in allied health, health care administration, and including all subject areas from general to scientific and technical to provide information using specialized reference sources, abstracts, and information sources including electronic files; assisting patrons with using the library and its tools and orients users to library facility services, resources, policies, and procedures. OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D or equivalent) related to the position.
