This position serves as Program Support Assistant (Social Work-OA) GS-0303-06 assigned to Social Work Service at the VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS).

Duties

DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation. Major Duties: Provides for the overall administrative support for the Homeless Program. Provides operational support to the Homeless Program staff members and performs the full range of clerical, business, and administrative duties to ensure the efficient and effective clinical services are provided to this Veteran population. Establishes internal procedures to secure adequate control in terms of deadlines, progress reports and directives and uses own initiative in developing procedures. Prepares, edits, and archives all official correspondence requiring signatures or approvals. Ensures accurate, timely and consistent entry of information in appropriate databases(s). Functions as the initial Point of Contact (POC) for Veterans seeking assistance from the Social Work Service Homeless Program, either by phone or in person. Communicates directly on a daily basis with the Homeless Program Coordinator, HUD-VASH, HCHV and VJO supervisors, and clinical staff regarding issues affecting program operations. Performs all aspects of timekeeping for the Homeless Program or as designated by the Site Manager. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 0800-1630 Position Description Title/PD#: Program Support Asst (OA)/PD029890 Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and is performed by sitting, standing, bending, and stooping. The employee is required to obtain records from files, and carry files, manuals, and other light objects up to 20 pounds. Occasional travel in the community to attend meetings and events when determined to be necessary and appropriate.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; answering and directing phone calls; preparing correspondence; maintaining files/records; time and attendance; Human Resources functions; using a computer to perform a variety of support tasks. At this grade level, applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to perform assignments independently with minimal oversight. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
