About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in the Directorate for Administration in El Paso, TX.
Duties
Serve as Assistant to the Patient Advocate for William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC).
Advocate for all beneficiaries, assisting in obtaining solutions related to customer service or Tricare related inquiries.
Use a variety of interpersonal, communication, problem solving, negotiation skills and techniques to identify, validate, and resolve patients’ concerns.
Use computer skills and equipment to prepare documentation, spreadsheets, memorandums, letters, and graphic representations.
Conduct Customer Service training and briefings for WBAMC staff to increase WBAMC staff awareness of patient perception and experience, contributing to improved staff understanding, improving patient satisfaction.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This is a DOD Financial Management position. The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain certification may result in adverse action.

Specialized Experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience in a medical treatment facility which includes responding to patient questions or inquiries; maintaining patient files/records; and utilizing office automation to prepare documentation, such as spreadsheets, memorandums, correspondence, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Management or Health Administration (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience for GS-07: One year of specialized experience at a military medical treatment facility which includes interviewing and/or documenting patient concerns to coordinate appropriate response/resolution; explaining medical benefits and resources, such as TRICARE; analyzing patient data to produce reports; and inputting patient data into automated healthcare system/database. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Management or Health Administration (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
