You will serve as a Claims Assistant (OA) in the Personnel Claims Unit (PCU), Admiralty & Claims (Code 15), within the Office of the Judge Advocate General (OJAG).
Duties
You will screen incoming correspondence, claims investigative reports, and supporting documentation submitted with the claims to ensure completeness.
You will initiate correspondence, draft and type correspondence into final format letters, and memoranda in accordance with established standards.
You will identify and rectify discrepancies in file documentation, including missing information required to properly initiate a claim and input information into the claim database.
You will perform various administrative duties such as answering phones, sending and receiving faxes, photocopying, monitoring supplies, answering general questions, and referring questions to appropriate staff.
You will maintain and track checks received in payment of claims.
Requirements

- Extensive computer use/typing is required such as the ability to type 40 words per minute.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that has equipped you with a working knowledge of adjudicating and settling claims for personal property, including household goods, mobile homes, automobiles, motorcycles, boats and all personal effects lost or damaged. Examples of specialized experience may include some of the following: 1) Reviewing incoming claims to ensure adequacy of supporting documentation; 2) Determining amount of money owed to claimants and preparing payment vouchers; 3) Utilizing databases and word processing systems to process information and prepare outgoing correspondence or documents; 4) Responding to basic inquiries from claimants and representatives regarding files; and 5) Performing general clerical duties such as answering phones, sending and receiving faxes, photocopying, and monitoring supplies.
