This position is located in the U.S. International Trade Commission, Office of Industry and Competitiveness Analysis. There is the possibility of extension through the school year, and/or for an additional year based on workload requirements and budget availability.

Duties
As an Economist Student Trainee, you will perform a variety of duties designed to encourage professional growth and development, through a variety of experiences, including the collection, compilation, analysis, and presentation of data related to international trade in products under investigation, and the U.S. industries affected by that trade.
You will perform duties related to statistical surveys, such as tabulation and processing of data, routing and posting from secondary sources, and preparation of simple charts, tables, or graphs. You will analyze data and information on factfinding investigations related to international trade. You will conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis utilizing a variety of tools, primarily MSExcel but perhaps also Stata, SAS, Python or other statistical software as required. You may conduct literature reviews and other targeted research on international trade issues and topics, including summarizing findings through written products. You may be called upon to collect, compile, and clean data from secondary sources (e.g. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and OECD). You will conduct analytical writing, preparing preliminary drafts for review by permanent staff and supervisors. As a Pathways Intern, you may be rotated to other offices or divisions as needed.

To be eligible for basic consideration, all Pathways Interns must:
Be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, on at least a half-time basis, at a qualifying educational institution
Be seeking a diploma, degree, or certificate·
Be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50

To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must meet one of the following requirements: 1 full academic year of graduate level education in international trade, international relations, economics, business, finance, or other trade related field; or a Bachelor's degree in international trade, international relations, economics, business, finance, or other trade related field with superior academic achievement, in the upper one-third of your graduating class; or have a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or based on courses completed during your final 2 years; OR one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Work experience should show the following: (a) Experience with conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis using a variety of tools, analyzing statistical data, preparing quantitative analysis and analytical reports. Knowledge and judgment to recognize, understand, and explain significant and varied findings; (b) experience with collecting data from primary and secondary sources using judgment in researching and selecting, and interpreting data; and (c) Experience with conducting literature reviews and other targeted research on international trade issues and topics, including summarizing findings in written analytical products.
