The incumbent will be an employee of the Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS). The incumbent will function as a member of the Office Nursing Service. The employee reports to the Patient Flow Nurse Manager and works most closely with the Cancer Care Navigator APN.
Duties
Provides direct administrative support to several Cancer Care Navigation Team (CCNT) and Hospice Palliative Care Team initiatives including coordinating visits, appointments, and travel for Veterans requiring Cancer Care diagnosis, treatment, or end of life planning within or external to the VA system. Assists the CCNT Registered Nurse (RN) in the facilitation and coordination of care from suspicion to diagnosis and treatment, transitions in care, surveillance and survivorship, and end of life. Assists with organization wide education initiatives related to cancer care including collaborating with other services to arrange for space, audiovisual support, materials, speaker needs, and marketing locally. Incumbent anticipates impact of changes such as unannounced surveys and adjusts the calendar accordingly, including making appropriate notification of affected employees and external stakeholders.
Provides information to internal and external stakeholders regarding CCNT and Palliative Care programs, including associated guidelines from the VISN and local memoranda of agreements with community cancer care treatment centers. Maintains current documentation on local and national policies, directives, and memoranda on cancer care. Incumbent is expected to have researched program elements and updated the revised documentation to reflect the most current standards, worked with Portland, Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (SORCC), and other VISN 20 VA facilities to identify current data on resources related to the cancer care program and related support services (nursing, pharmacy, radiology, etc.), and collaborated with the service chief of the programs to ensure documentation reflects demographic and other salient components of the program office specific to Roseburg VA Health Care System (RVAHCS).
The incumbent performs work involving the independent exploration and identification of data, statistical information, references, documentation, and relevant policies, standards, and directives in support of a broad range of topics as noted above (local and national policies, cancer care referrals, etc.). Maintains all associated documentation in support of each program in accordance with RCS-10.1, ensuring appropriate levels of privacy and access.
Incumbent manages the tracking of the various budgets associated with the programs. This includes travel and education budgets, special purpose funds, and assists with tracking travel and other costs. Collaborates with Fiscal and Education Service responsible official to ensure distributions are aligned to priorities within the CCNT program. Monitors for trends and recommends corrections, with analysis of implications for remainder of the year, to the supervisor. Prepares packets for Tumor Board review. Serves as single point of contact for PACT, SORCC, Portland, and community agencies following up with outreach from RN. Monitors referrals and consults to ensure timely and appropriate closure. Builds clinics, ensuring coding and mapping are appropriate to maximize workload capture and reimbursement.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet specialize experience requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Prepare, Track, and complete purchase orders for equipment, supplies and materials. Provides clerical support including answering phones, collecting and distributing mail, faxing, mailing, copying, managing calendars and other administrative functions typically associated with office management. Reviews documents, reports, and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. Compile and summarize information and data using a computerized tracking program. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week.
In addition to meeting Specialized Experience the following is required:
Typing Proficiency: 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet this requirement by presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates (must upload certificate with application package) or by self-certifying their proficiency.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
