About the Position: The primary purpose for establishment of this job is to assist the Commander, of Womack Army Medical Center, by active participation in the management of the office, applying a good working knowledge of the Commander's responsibilities in resolving procedural and administrative problems and relieving them of administrative details.
Duties

Establish suspense systems to ensure items assigned for action are completed and submitted on time.
Independently prepare correspondence, authenticate orders, directives, and memorandums.
Prepare consolidated reports for management review, both within and outside the organization.
Represent the office in secretarial/administrative support areas.
Confirm office procedures meet organization needs and are consistently understood and followed in subordinate offices.
Plan, coordinate, and organize visits of high-ranking distinguished guests and dignitaries to the command.
Recommend revisions on procedural direction to the command on matters relating to protocol.
Serves as a source of authority to other secretaries and administrative staff on policies and selects from these individuals in order to provide extra clerical, and secretarial support needed to accomplish the mission.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes overseeing administrative concepts and practices sufficient to recommend changes in administrative policies; devising/installing procedures and office practices affecting subordinate organizations; anticipating administrative problems and requirements to resolve procedural issues; reviewing protocol plans and programs to determine adequacy; writing and editing high quality administrative correspondence to ensure correct grammar, spelling, and appropriate format.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-7).
